I’m super excited to share something that’s really close to my heart—a new, special edition color palette called James Created especially for Black History Month, this palette isn’t just a collection of hues; it’s a celebration of Black artistry and the stories that come with it.
I drew inspiration for James from the vibrant energy of New York City and the unforgettable work of artist Jordan Casteel. If you’re not already familiar with her art, let me fill you in. Born in Denver and now making magic in New York, Jordan creates intimate portraits that pull you right into the moment. Whether it’s the buzz of Harlem street corners, the dynamic energy of windswept plazas, or the intimate setting of a living room, her paintings capture life as it is—real, raw, and full of soul.

What really stands out about Jordan’s work is its authenticity. She often paints from photographs she takes on the street, and that gives her art a documentary, candid feel that I just can’t get enough of. With an MFA in painting and printmaking from Yale and exhibitions ranging from New Haven to Cape Town—including standout solo shows at the Denver Art Museum and New Museum in New York—Jordan’s portraits shine a light on the vibrant lives of people of color. Her work reminds us that these stories, too often overlooked, are rich and worthy of celebration.
